A small land patch of in West Bengal near Siliguri connecting the north east India is often referred as ‘chicken’s neck’ area considering its security implications.
On Saturday the 22nd of August 2026 Home Minister Amit Shah held an important meeting with top police and security officials just outside the Siliguri Garrison near Bagdogra Airfield and was briefed with latest inputs.
One of the key points of focus at this meeting was steps that are required to enhance border surveillance, improve coordination between the central security forces, intelligence agencies and the state police and administration, and draw up a framework for establishing what now is known as a ‘Triangular Security Grid’ in the region.
Since the Siliguri Corridor or ‘chicken’s neck’ area touches three international borders with Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh even as Chinese territory not far away, senior officials of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) were present at Amit Shah’s meeting.
The Union Home minister was on a three day visit to West Bengal.
According to senior Home Ministry sources, the Triangular Security Grid in this region will comprise of establishing new three military garrisons at Dhubri in Assam, Kishanganj in Bihar and Chopra in West Bengal.
