Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has reacted to the accolades showered by the US President Donald Trump on India’s election system stating that our ‘credibility and robustness of election machinery are well-established facts globally’ recognised.

The Official Spokesperson of MEA, Randhir Jaiswal said this during his bi-weekly presser on Tuesday the 18th of August 2026.

Donald Trump has praised India’s election system while recalling Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s remarks on the lack of voter identification in American polls.

Trump referred Gyanesh Kumar’s comments to make a case for a fool-proof Election ID Card system in his country.

While answering media queries on other issues, Randhir Jaiswal stated that India has expressed grief at the loss of lives due to a massive earthquake in Indonesia.

‘India is deeply saddened by this tragedy and convey its condolences on the precious lives lost,’ he said.

On news emanating from Bangladesh regarding crisis situation in that country with regard to scarcity of petroleum products Jaiswal said, new requests as received from Bangladesh are being examined by the concerned people.

On a query on development cooperation, the Spokesperson said, India desires positive, constructive and forward-looking relations with Bangladesh based on mutual interests and reciprocity.

On Pakistan’s reaction to India’s claims over Shahzad Bhatti terror network, Randhir Jaiswal said, the Government of India has put forth this position, and that is where it stands. He said, on terrorism matters, these are very serious things and India take it very seriously.

The MEA Spokesperson said, India wants the global community to understand the gravity of such actions where India has been hit hard by terrorism.

Jaiswal added that in the past India made a lot of effort to galvanise global action and strengthen global action to fight terrorism, including cross-border terrorism.

‘India’s fight to deal with terrorism will continue and whatever action is required to be taken on that account to defeat this scourge of terrorism, India will continue to take’, Randhir Jaiswal added.

On protests in Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK), the MEA Spokesperson said, many lives have been lost there, and a large number of people have suffered casualties and injuries.

He said, severe restrictions have been imposed on essential commodities and everyday items and added that the situation in POJK is such that the local population needs and deserves sympathy and solidarity from the international community.
