The Indian Navy is all set to acquire made-in-India satellite jammers for safe operations of its war machine.

On Wednesday the 10th of June 2026, it was officially announced by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) that contract worth about Rs 449 crore has been inked to buy 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System Jammers for Indian Navy.

Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Accord Software and Systems Private Limited (ASSPL), Bengaluru for the procurement of 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (ECGNSS) Jammers for the Indian Navy at a total cost of Rs 449 crore with minimum 75% indigenous content.

The contract, under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, was inked in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi on June 10, 2026.

The system’s capabilities include degrading the satellite signal acquisition and tracking performance of the adversary GNSS receiver and signal spoofing or deceptive jamming.

The induction would pave the way for safe operations by the ships of the Indian Navy in a multi-threat environment.

These are electronic warfare weapons. They are primarily used by militaries to blind enemy drones, throw guided missiles off course, and prevent opposing forces from tracking troop movements.

The contract reinforces the Government’s commitment to Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India while bolstering the maritime security architecture of the country.

It marks a critical milestone in the ongoing efforts to bolster defence capabilities and indigenise advanced military technology.

In simple terms an Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (ECGNSS) jammer is a high-tech device designed to block or disrupt GPS and other satellite navigation signals over large areas or with extreme precision.

  • GNSS: This is the umbrella term for all satellite navigation systems, including American GPS, European Galileo, Russian GLONASS, and Chinese BeiDou.
  • Enhanced Capability: This means the device is much more powerful, smarter, and harder to beat than a standard, cheap civilian jammer.
  • Jammer: A device that broadcasts “noise” on the same frequencies used by satellites, overpowering the real signals so receivers cannot find their location.

How It Differs From Normal Jammers

  • Broad Spectrum: Standard jammers usually block just one frequency (like civilian GPS). ECGNSS jammers can block multiple frequencies and multiple satellite systems at the same time.
  • Smart Jamming: Instead of just blasting random noise, they can mimic real satellite signals to trick or confuse military-grade navigation systems.
  • Longer Range: They are built to disrupt signals across massive combat zones or entire regions, rather than just a few meters around a vehicle.
