Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a phone call from U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance on Saturday evening the 8th of August 2026.

In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said the two leaders discussed ways to further deepen the India–U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership across key areas.

The call from the U.S. Vice President came in the wake of the formation of a three‑nation military alliance between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye. This alignment of forces in West Asia is being described as an ‘Islamic NATO’ in a region already seen as a growing conflict zone.

During their telephonic conversation, both leaders noted the sustained momentum in high‑level engagements and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in trade, defence, critical and emerging technologies, energy security, and critical minerals.

Modi and Vance also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest. The Prime Minister congratulated the Vice President and the Second Lady, Usha, on the birth of their son and conveyed best wishes to the family.

Relations between India and the United States have swung like a pendulum over the past twelve months, particularly after President Donald Trump imposed punitive tariffs on India. Vance’s phone call to Modi is being seen as an effort to ease volatility in Indo–U.S. relations.
