In a strongly worded message, India has expressed disappointment with the United Nations for ignoring the repression in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

Early on Friday the 24th of July 2026, while speaking at the UN Security Council Open Debate on Strengthening the Mechanisms for Peaceful Settlement of Disputes, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador P Harish, said that while similar developments in other countries are strongly criticised by the United Nations, such repression in Pakistan does not receive the attention it deserves.

Also responding to Pakistan’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir during the debate, India’s Permanent Representative accused Islamabad of systematically suppressing the rights of the people in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

P Harish said Pakistan should focus on addressing its internal challenges instead of promoting what he described as a misleading narrative before the international community.

His remarks came after Pakistan once again raised the Kashmir issue at the Security Council, prompting a strong response from India.
