Army, Navy and the Air Force are set to receive new weapons and systems worth ₹1.10 lakh crore after the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) cleared a major round of proposals, with 98 per cent of sourcing to come from Indian industry.
The approvals mark one of the largest pushes for indigenisation in recent years, reinforcing the government’s focus on reducing dependence on overseas suppliers.
The DAC, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, met on Monday, September 7, 2026, and accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) — the in-principle administrative approval — to a wide range of acquisition proposals for the three services.
For the Indian Army, the clearances cover procurement of Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Recce Vehicles, High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs), Self-Propelled Mechanical Mine Layers (MMLs), Advanced Light Helicopters (ALHs), Trawl Tanks and the Sarvatra Bridge System.
The Indian Navy will induct Arudhra Radars to replace ageing Air Route Surveillance Radars at Naval Air Stations, while also moving ahead with the indigenous design and development of Marine Gas Turbines (MGTs) — a critical warship propulsion system that will cut reliance on foreign vendors.
Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force has received approval for proposals aimed at enhancing the war-fighting capability of fighters, transports and helicopters.
The clearances include procurement of Ground-Based Multi-Purpose Jammers (GBMPJ) and installation of the Defence Forces Secure Access Card (DEFSAC) System.
