Breakthrough has happened on Thursday the 8th of September 2022, to de-escalate tension in at least one part of the Eastern Ladakh along the tense LOC (line of control) border between India and China after it was announced that army columns from both sides will retreat from an eye-ball to eye-ball situation.

This agreement happened nearly seven weeks after 16th round of border talks that were held on 17th of July 2022 between corps commanders Indian Army the Chinese  PLA – the People’s Liberation Army.

The disengagement is happening at the Patrolling Point 15 (PP15) in the Gogra-Hot Spring region of Eastern Ladakh.

Soldiers from both the countries have been camping at this location since April 2020 in a very tense and in all kinds of bad weather situations.

According to a joint statement issued by the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday –

“On 8th September 2022, according to the consensus reached in the 16th round of India China Corps Commander Level Meeting, the Indian and Chinese troops in the area of Gogra-Hotsprings (PP-15) have begun to disengage in a coordinated and planned way, which is conducive to the peace and tranquillity in the border areas.”

With this announcement of disengagement at PP 15, armed soldiers from both India and China are reported to have scaled down tension at nearly all friction points in the region which included the North and South banks of the Pangong lake, , PP 14, PP 15 and PP 17A.

Two major fiction areas remains to be resolved are namely at Depsang Plains and Charding Nala regions.
