Fast paced and tension filled developments in Ukraine prompted India to observe on Friday the 28th January 2022,  that that area needs “peaceful resolution” and not otherwise  – even as thousands of soldiers in full battle regalia are pitted against Russian army columns.

Russian authorities have publicly denied that it is planning an attack on Ukraine.

Amidst fears of war clouds the Indian embassy in Kiev has been working overtime to keep a tab on all Indian nationals still in Ukraine.

On Friday, Arindam Bagchi, the official spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) during his weekly press briefing stated that “we have been closely following the developments relating to Ukraine including ongoing high-level discussions between Russia and the US. Our Embassy in Kiev is also monitoring local developments,” he said.

“We call for a peaceful resolution of the situation through sustained diplomatic efforts for long-term peace and stability in the region and beyond,”  Arindam Bagchi added.

The MEA’s background note circulated in the recent past has said – India
was one of the first countries to recognize Ukraine as a sovereign country in December 1991 and established full diplomatic relations the following month.

With a population of over 40 million and an area of about 600,000 square
km, Ukraine remains one of the largest countries in Europe.
