India today officially said there is absolutely “no clarity on any entity forming the next government in Afghanistan” and the situation on ground in Kabul is “uncertain and fluid”.
Stating this on Friday, 27 August, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Arindam Bagchi said after yesterday’s bomb blast at Kabul Airport, India is assessing the situation when to resume evacuation flights.
On the most important question of the day whether India is in position to recognize any form of government in Afghanistan, the MEA spokesperson said “Currently, there is no clarity on any entity forming a government in Kabul.
“There has been a lot of stories going around about who will be represented in the government (in Kabul) and whether the government (there) will be inclusive, which is another question, and whether other elements of the Afghan polity will be represented in that”.
“It would like “jumping the gun” (to recognise anyone) while Kabul is in a “fluid situation”, Arindam Bagchi said in his weekly media briefing.
Answering another ticklish issue regarding e-visa, Arindam Bagchi said as of now these emergency visas are being given to Afghan nationals only for six months.
Since there is a lack of clarity in Kabul, status of all evacuated Afghan nationals will be taken-up as the situation evolves.
India till date has evacuated 550 persons including 260 Indian nationals in six different flights from Kabul.
This figure does not include Indian embassy staff who were brought back to safety from Afghanistan.
