The Government of India has approved the export of electricity to Nepal for 18 hours a day until December 31, 2026, to help the country cope with the aftermath of recent floods.

According to the Ministry of Power, the approval covers the supply of 600 megawatts through the Muzaffarpur–Dhalkebar transmission line and an additional 54 megawatts via the Tanakpur–Mahendranagar line.

Severe flooding has caused extensive damage to Nepal’s hydropower infrastructure, sharply reducing its domestic generation capacity and creating an urgent need for supplementary power.

Officials noted that the arrangement, effective since Monday, will help Nepal meet its electricity requirements during this challenging period while further reinforcing the longstanding energy partnership between the two nations.

The Ministry emphasized that India remains committed to supporting Nepal and deepening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
