The Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an important one-to-one meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on Monday the 31st of August 2026.
In their extensive discussions on wide range of subjects, the much talked about quote from the meeting has been Modi’s assertation about continuing Russia-Ukraine conflict that efforts should be to ‘move away from the endless war towards an end of the war’ scenario.
Modi apparently told Putin that resolving “all issues through peaceful means is humanity’s call and India supports all efforts towards peace”.
This was their first meeting in 2026 since their last one held in December 2025. This was an opportunity to review bilateral c0operation between the two countries particularly in the field of defence and strategic affairs.
Putin confirmed to Modi that he will be in New Delhi for the BRICS Summit conclave.
