The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) has introduced a new Joint Parcel Product – Rapid Cargo Service (JPP‑RCS) – on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).

This service marks a significant milestone in strengthening rail‑based parcel logistics, offering faster, reliable, and scheduled transportation solutions for cargo.

Covering approximately 1,200 kilometers one way, the service will connect major logistics and industrial hubs across northern and western India.

The newly launched rail service is expected to generate around ₹21 lakh per round trip, translating into an estimated annual revenue potential of ₹76 crore with regular operations. It is also expected to create new opportunities for parcel operators, logistics providers, e‑commerce businesses, manufacturers, traders, and other freight users seeking dependable, time‑sensitive transport solutions.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, during its weekly meeting, the Union Cabinet approved five major infrastructure projects — four railway projects and one highway project.

Briefing the media in New Delhi, I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the projects, worth ₹13,041 crore, were cleared under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He informed that four railway multitracking projects will span eight districts across West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. These include:

  • Kharagpur–Bhadrak (4th line)
  • Bhadrak–Haridaspur (4th line)
  • Gummidipundi–Gudur (3rd and 4th lines)
  • Cuttack–Paradeep (3rd and 4th lines)

Together, these projects will add about 410 kilometers to the Indian Railways network, at a total estimated cost of ₹9,450 crore, with completion targeted by 2030–31.

The Cabinet also approved the upgradation of the Muzaffarpur–Sitamarhi–Sonbarsa section of NH‑22 in Bihar to four‑lane standards. The 82.57‑kilometer project will be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode at a capital cost of over ₹3,590 crore.
