The entire length of 13 km long all weather Zojila Tunnel is now fully excavated.
This rare feat was achieved on Tuesday the 9th of June with the symbolic breaking-off of final wall of rocks.
The Zojila tunnel is considered to be world’s longest bi-directional tunnel located at 11,578 feet.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah were present during the formal excavation ceremony.
The 13.15-kilometre Zoji-La Tunnel, a strategic infrastructure project designed to provide all-weather connectivity between Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
It is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 6,500 crore.
