In a landmark episode India’s first hydrogen-powered passenger train has begun its journey.
On Friday the 17th of July 2026, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged-off country’s first such train fully fuelled by hydrogen in Haryana.
The zero-emission passenger will run between Jind and Sonipat railways stations – a journey that is 89 km long covering distance in around two hours while stopping at 12 intermediate stations.
This train is designed to accommodate around 2,600 passengers. Initially railway engineers have limited its speed to run at 75 kmph though its design allows the top speed to touch 110 kmph.
The project is expected to demonstrate the viability of hydrogen fuel technology in India’s railway network and pave the way for wider adoption of green mobility solutions.
