India, on Saturday the 3rd of October 2026, summoned the Chargé d’Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission after an infiltration attempt along the International Border in Punjab, as diplomatic tensions escalated following the killing of two suspected intruders by the Border Security Force (BSF).

According to official sources, BSF personnel detected three individuals approaching the border fence from the Pakistani side.

Despite repeated warnings, the intruders continued advancing, prompting BSF troops to open fire.

Reports emerging from across the border indicated that two of the three individuals were killed in the firing.

Following the incident, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned Pakistan’s top diplomat in New Delhi and lodged a strong protest over what it described as the continued facilitation of illegal cross-border infiltration from Pakistani territory.

The MEA also rejected what it termed Pakistan’s “baseless and motivated allegations” regarding the incident that occurred in the Ferozepur sector along the International Border on Friday.

In a statement, the ministry said BSF personnel were compelled to engage the three individuals after they posed an imminent security threat. It added that the episode reflected a “clear pattern” of repeated cross-border movement linked to armed narcotics syndicates operating from Pakistan.

India urged the Pakistani authorities to investigate the infiltration attempt, cross-border drug smuggling activities, and the alleged complicity of Pakistan’s border guarding forces.

The MEA further called upon Pakistan to take effective remedial measures, uphold the sanctity of the International Border, and ensure strict adherence to existing bilateral arrangements. It also urged Islamabad to exercise effective control on its side of the border to prevent unauthorised cross-border movement.

The diplomatic exchange came after Pakistan summoned India’s Chargé d’Affaires to protest the deaths of the two individuals near the International Border.

Pakistan disputed India’s characterization of the deceased as intruders, asserting that they were unarmed civilians who had inadvertently crossed the border.
