Upper reaches of Kashmir valley including, Mughal road and Zojila mountains on Srinagar-Ladakh highway experienced fresh snowfall while plains lashed by rains causing a dip in temperature on Tuesday the 11th of October, 2022,  officials said.

According to newsagency UNI, Mughal road connecting Shopian district in south Kashmir to Poonch district in Jammu region experienced the season’s first light snowfall on Tuesday.

The traffic on the road was temporarily closed following snowfall as a precautionary measure. The tourists were enthusiastic after seeing the snow at Peer Ki Gali on the Mughal road.

Higher reaches of Kashmir valley including Affarwat in Gulmarg and Zojila mountains experienced light snowfall while most parts of plains were lashed by rains resulting in drop in temperature.

A local weather observatory had reported that very light snowfall has occurred over Zojila mountains and higher reaches of Gulmarg. However nothing significant, it is quite common for this period of the season.

Reports of rainfall were received from Pahalgam, Qazigund, Banihal, Gulmarg and other parts of the Kashmir valley today.

Srinagar experienced overcast sky with light mild cold breeze conditions around. Locals and tourists were seen putting off warm sweaters and jackets on the Boulevard road near the banks of Dal Lake.

The Meteorological Department has forecast mainly dry weather with possibility of isolated light rain and thunder in J&K during the next 24 hours. There would be no expected major change in weather till October 17, the MeT office added.

Srinagar recorded a low of 9.4 degree Celsius, Gulmarg recorded a low of 3.5 degree Celsius and the mercury at pahalgam recorded a low of 6.1 degree Celsius on Tuesday.
