India took opportunity early on Thursday morning on 7th of July, 2022,  putting adequate pressure on China to behave like a good neighbour to resolve outstanding issues including disengagement from all friction points along the Eastern Ladakh area at the LAC – the line of actual control.

The occasion was External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar meeting his counterpart on the side-lines at the two day meeting of G20 foreign ministers’ in Bali, Indonesia.

A statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs explicitly stated that Dr Jaishankar reiterated India’s demand for complete disengagement troops at the remaining friction points in Eastern Ladakh.

There is an urgent need to “sustain the momentum to complete disengagement from all remaining areas to restore to peace and tranquillity in the border areas”, the MEA statement said.

The EAM’s meeting with Mr Wang Yi lasted for an hour.

In a tweet message Dr Jaishankar said “began my day in Bali by meeting FM Wang Yi of China. Discussion lasted one hour. Focused on specific outstanding issues in our bilateral relationship pertaining to the border situation. Also spoke about other matters including students and flights.”.

India will take over the G20 presidency later this year. The venue and locations for G20 Summit will be in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

In May this year, former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla was appointed as the coordinator for the next G-20 summit.

Commerce minister Piyush Goyal is the G-20 sherpa.

G-20 members represent more than 80 per cent of world GDP, 75 per cent of international trade and 60 per cent of the world population.

Sources said that every G-20 Presidency in the past has utilised the opportunity to chair the eminent forum of the world’s largest economies to shape the global discourse on key socio-economic and contemporary issues.
