Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, on Saturday evening that is on 29th of August 2026 for his two-day visit to the Central Asian country.
The PM was personally received by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Tashkent International Airport
This is Modi’s fourth to Uzbekistan.
His earlier visits in 2015, 2016 and 2022, reflected the importance New Delhi attaches to its expanding engagement with the strategically significant Central Asian axis.
Soon after landing in Tashkent, Prime Minister Modi thanked the Uzbek leader for the reception and described his latest visit as a reflection of the strengthening momentum in bilateral ties.
In a message twitted soon after his arrival Modi said: “Landed in Tashkent to a warm welcome by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Grateful to him for the special gesture,” Prime Minister Modi said in a post on social media platform X.
On Sunday the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Mirziyoyev will reflect on the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, which are based on civilisational ties built over centuries and strengthened by strong people-to-people ties.
According to MEA sources, when the two leaders meet at the Presidential Palace both are expected to review cooperation in trade and investment, defence, digital connectivity, energy, education and people-to-people ties.
The PM is scheduled to pay respects at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial in Tashkent, which commemorates India’s second Prime Minister, who died in the Uzbek capital in January 1966 following the signing of the Tashkent Declaration.
Modi will also visit the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, underlining the enduring cultural and civilisational connections between India and Uzbekistan.
Various media agencies were reporting that Uzbek capital Tashkent was illuminated and decorated with Indian Tricolour flags with the preparations reflecting the special importance attached by the Uzbek leadership to the visit.
As scheduled earlier the PM after completing his engagements in Uzbekistan will travel to Bishkek in the Kyrgyz Republic for the second leg of his Central Asian tour.
He will attend the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit from August 31 to September 1.
