External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar was on a one-day visit to Kuwait on 18th of August 2024.

The visit went off as planned and Dr Jaishankar is reported to have conveyed India’s issues with regard to labour and manpower and their implementation with Kuwaiti authorities.

Dr Jaishankar met the Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah and conveyed the greetings of PM Narendra Modi.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), EAM in his meeting with Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, foreign minister of Kuwait discussed new areas of untapped potential for further enhancing collaboration, particularly in pharma, technology and education.

The MEA statement added that talks also including issues with regard to labour and manpower issues and their implementation.

Both Ministers also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

​While in Kuwait, Dr Jaishankar also met a cross-section of prominent members of Indian community as well as representatives of various professional and community associations.

The large and vibrant Indian community in Kuwait continues to be a living bridge between the two countries.

It may be recalled that in June earlier this year Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued a decree to appoint Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah as the Crown Prince of Kuwait.

Born in 1953 in Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah previously served as the prime minister of Kuwait from 2019 to 2022.
