In wake of strong reactions from four gulf countries, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)  on Sunday the 5th of June, 2022 took corrective steps to diffuse tension following controversial remarks made by two of their spokespersons against minorities.

It has now expelled their spokespersons, Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar, the later being media head of Delhi Pradesh BJP while Ms Sharma was on the panel of ruling party’s national spokespersons.

Many news agencies were reporting that government representatives from Saudi Arabia,  Kuwait and Iran followed by Qatar had conveyed their concerns and displeasure against the two BJP’s television panelists who allegedly made derogatory statements hurting sentiments of muslims.

A tweet by Indian Embassy of Kuwait said, “Ambassador Sibi George had a meeting in the Foreign Office in which concerns were raised with regard to some offensive tweets by individuals in India.”

“Ambassador conveyed that the tweets do not, in any manner, reflect the views of the Government of India. These are the views of fringe elements,” said the spokesperson.

One of the Indian news agency’s  dispatches was quoted a spokesperson from the Indian Embassy in Kuwait stating that “in line with our civilizational heritage and strong cultural traditions of unity in diversity, the Government of India accords the highest respect to all religions.”
Earlier, India had conveyed to Qatari government that controversial remarks against minorities are ‘views of fringe elements and not of the Government of India.’
