The first day of the session of Rajya Sabha after recess break in the ongoing budget session saw uproarious scenes as Opposition staged a walkout after their demand was refused by the chair for a discussion on issues ranging from alleged lapse in electoral rolls to the US President Donald Trump’s statement about funding for voter turnout in India.
The House was informed that as many as 12 notices were received under rule 267 which were rejected by the Deputy Chairman Harivansh wo was in the chair.
Some MPs also demanded discussion on various reports of concerns about the upcoming delimitation exercise.
While Harivansh cited previous rulings of the Chairman to reject the members’ demand for discussion on various issues under rule 267, he urged members to send notices under other relevant provisions.
“The notices under Rule 267 have not been permitted. If the members so desire they may submit notices under any other Parliamentary device for the consideration of the Chairman,” Harivansh said.
