COVID-19 virus continues to do damage as president of Spain Pedro Sanchez was forced to cancel his trip to G20 Summit meeting here in New Delhi.
On Thursday evening by messaging his condition on Twitter (now known as X) Sánchez said, “This afternoon I have tested positive for COVID and will not be able to travel to New Delhi for the G20 Summit. I feel fine.”
Now Spain will be represented by its the First Vice President Nadia Calvino and Minister of Economic Affairs and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation, he added.
Sánchez is the third high profile leader to had pulled out of the G20 Summit.
The Russian president Vladimir Putin and Chinese president Xi Jinping are also not coming to Delhi.
On Friday morning that is on September 8th, 2023 traffic regulations in and around NDMC area come into force ahead for the G20 Summit.
The stage is now fully set for the its formal inauguration on Saturday the 9th of September 2023 when prime minister Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate the two day event at the newly constructed Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan convention centre.
India had assumed the G20 presidency on December 1 last year and about 200 meetings related to G20 were organized in 60 cities across the country.
A G20 Leaders’ declaration is expected to be adopted at the conclusion of the meeting.
The next G20 presidency is going to be taken over by Brazil in 2024, followed by South Africa in 2025.
