India is working to develop its own quantum computer systems – the next big thing for AI driven war doctrine, said the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Rajnath was in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh on 24th of February 2025 to preside over the 16th Foundation Day function of the IIT Mandi.

“The future lies in quantum computing. India is also working in this direction. Till recently, we were not familiar with quantum computing. The supercomputer was the biggest thing for us in the world of computing. But you must have seen that recently, Google has introduced a quantum chip named Willow,”  stated Rajnath Singh.

The Defence Minister stated that need of the hour is to “create our own AI-driven war doctrine. For defence, there is a need to create indigenous AI chips,: he said while adding that “Keeping cyber security in mind, there is a need to develop firewalls. I believe that IIT Mandi can play a big role in this.”
