Costal state of Goa is about to get special attention from Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) when it keeps open its portal for local fishermen to upload their details as authorities rush to top-up demographic statistics.
The focus is those fishermen have been left out for Aadhar registration and are unable to get benefits of various government schemes.
The issue came up for discussion at the ‘western zone council meeting’ on Saturday the 11th of June 2022 held in Goa where union home minister Amit Shah was present.
The Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant raised the issue of additional fishermen to be registered for Aadhar Card enumeration.
Till date about 11,000 fishermen in Goa are already registered with UIDAI and they have their bank accounts operating.
Since Goa is state more vulnerable to crimes related to smuggling, computerisation of Aadhar Cards is an effective way to keep a check on crimes and incidences of smuggling along the coasts.
