The world had known this fact for quite sometime that Indian Navy’s elite marine commando unit, the Marcos are a fearful combat outfit. Terrorists fear them.
Whatever happened on Friday the 5th of January 2024 off the Somalian coast was real time exhibit befitting to what Marcos are known for.
According to various sources and media dispatches hijacking of cargo vessel MV Lila Norfolk ended moment sea pirates came to know that Navy’s Marcos commandos have been deployed to rescue Indian nationals.
When reports last came-in, all 21 crew members including 15 Indian sailors were safely evacuated Marcos.
In fact when the sea pirates had hijacked their ship when their location was about 300 kms off the Somalia coast, all crew had reached a ‘safe house’ inside the ship while sending SOS message.
The radio message was picked-up by Navy.
INS Chennai was in the vicinity of the highjacked merchant vessel. It was quickly scrambled to action station.
In a statement on twitter X by Navy’s spokesperson – “Indian Navy’s Swift Response to the Hijacking Attempt of MV Lila Norfolk in the North Arabian Sea. All 21 crew (incl 15 Indians) onboard safely evacuated from the citadel. Sanitisation by MARCOs has confirmed absence of the hijackers.
The statement further added that – the attempt of hijacking by the pirates was probably abandoned with the forceable warning by the Indian Navy MPA of interception by Indian Naval warship.
