News regarding Ukraine and Russia crises is happening at a rapid fast pace now.
When it was well past mid-night here in Delhi on 21-22 February 2022, news came-in that Russian President Vladimir Putin in a television speech announced that he is officially recognizing two separatists states in Ukraine as new independent counties of Luhansk and Donetsk.
As an immediate measure of friendship for the newly created independent countries Russia is sending its troops to both Luhansk and Donetsk.
This immediately prompted US President Joe Biden to sign a presidential order banning any American investment in both these troubled spots along the Russian-Ukraine border areas.
And soon after these developments the UN Security council meeting was called in New York to discuss the crisis.
Many news agencies including French news agency AFP reported that Putin was emotional in his speech when he announced creation of independence of two separatist regions in eastern Ukraine.
“I believe it is necessary to take a long overdue decision, to immediately recognise the independence and sovereignty of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic,” he said.
The Russian state media then beamed pictures showing Putin signing mutual aid and friendship agreements with rebel leaders in Moscow.
Before he ended his speech, Putin asked Russia’s upper house of parliament, the Federation Council, to support this decision.
Tuesday, that is today when both Russia’s lower and upper houses of parliament are scheduled to cast their vote on the recognition of Luhansk and Donetsk.
