Both the Houses were adjourned sine-die within minutes after referring the controversial law to hold a unified election schedule for the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies to a Joint Parliamentary Committee.

The legislative movement was fast and swift – first it was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Friday the 20th of December 2024.

The Speaker Om Birla wasted no time at the appointed hour at 11 am when he asked the Law Minister Arjun Meghwal to move the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill 2024 and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment Bill) 2024 – otherwise known as One Nation One Poll bill.

And when Rajya Sabha reconvened after a brief adjournment, the Secretary General read out names of the 27 Lok Sabha MPs who have been made members of the JPC.

Arjun Meghwal then announced inclusion of 12 Rajya Sabha MPs into the new JPC while stating that it has been given time till the end of the Budget Session in 2025 to submit its report.

Among the Lok Sabha members, 17 are from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, including 12 from the BJP.
