Official assessment in India about happening in Ukraine is – its certainly not a panic situation – however “it’s live” out there.
Stating this during his weekly press briefing, the spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi said – India has no immediate plans for evacuation of its citizens from Ukraine, nor has it arranged for any special flights to bring back Indians.
This statement comes-in in the backdrop of civil aviation ministry removing a number of restrictions on flights entering into the Ukraine airspace.
Arindam Bagchi added that primary focus of government of India in Ukraine remains on well being “of Indian citizens and Indian students, Indian nationals, rather than anything larger than that, and in terms of what we need to do to ensure that they are safe”.
He said the Indian Embassy in Kyiv was monitoring the situation on the ground continuously, and control rooms have been set up out there with similar control room operating from the MEA’s HQ in New Delhi.
India has encouraged many carriers to operate charter flights between the two nations along with exploring some alternate air routes operating from Almaty, Dubai and Sharjah.
Indian embassy at Kyiv has issued guidance to the students not to panic. There are specific FAQs on situation in Ukraine that have been put out, the MEA spokesperson said.
At present Ukrainian International Airlines, Air Arabia, Fly Dubai and Qatar Airways are operating flights from Ukraine.
