Indian Navy’s divers have joined rescue operation to save nine trapped coal miners in hill district of Hasao in Assam.
When the last reports came-in on Tuesday the 7th of January 2025, two attempts were made to reach miners in the flooded coal mine.
According to senior officials from state administration in Assam, the ill-fated mine is unauthorised and illegal.
On Tuesday IAF’s C-130 transport plane ferried Indian Navy’s divers with their state of art equipment.
It may be recalled that on Monday the coal mine was flooded with underground water channel that miners had apparently tapped.
Rescue Task Force of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, comprising Divers and Engineers are at the location.
Army Engineers are currently assisting the civil administration in removing water from the mine and to coordinate provisioning of adequate lighting to illuminate the site in enabling the continuance of operations at night.
The joint rescue efforts will continue through the night while search operations will commence again tomorrow morning.
