In his first official foreign visit after becoming the Prime Minister in his third term, Narendra Modi is now in Moscow.

Its going to be a two day visit – technically to take part in the 22nd Annual Summit Meeting between Indian and Russian leadership – Modi’s visit has attracted attention of the world.

It is taking place in times when majority of the western world is blaming Putin for Russian-Ukraine conflict while India is standing tall with its oldest and time tested strategic partner.

On the agenda for Modi in Moscow is to further the bilateral Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership, especially in futuristic areas of cooperation.

PM Modi was received by First Deputy PM Denis Manturov at the airport.

In a post on X, the PM said: “Landed in Moscow. Looking forward to further deepening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between our nations, especially in futuristic areas of cooperation. Stronger ties between our nations will greatly benefit our people.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry in a post on social media showed PM Modi alighting from the plane, and posted a welcome message.

“Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi arrives in Moscow on an official visit.

“Welcome, Excellency! #RussiaIndia #DruzhbaDosti”

The MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in a post on X said:

“PM @narendramodi lands in Moscow for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit.

“Warmly received by First Deputy PM Denis Manturov of Russia at the airport.

“PM is set to hold substantive discussions with President Vladimir Putin to take forward the special partnership between the two countries. He will also interact with the Indian community in Russia.”

President Putin is set to host a private dinner for Prime Minister Modi later in the night.

On Tuesday before embarking to a day-long visit to Austria, Modi will be interacting with the local Indian community in Russia.

He will lay a wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Kremlin. Later, he will visit the Rosatom Pavilion at the exhibition venue in Moscow.

At the Kremlin, the two leaders will hold restricted level talks, followed by delegation level talks.

The 22nd Annual Summit between India and Russia will provide an opportunity to the two leaders to review the whole range of bilateral issues, including defence, trade linkages, investment ties, energy cooperation, Science and Technology, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

They would also expected to share perspectives on regional and global developments of mutual interest. They would also assess the status of bilateral engagements in groupings such as BRICS, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, G20, East Asia Summit, and the UN.
