Days before the start of new IPL season, Lalit Modi, the man who started it and ran away from India in wake of largescale money laundering allegations is believed to have escaped into a safe haven right under the nose of Indian authorities.
Lalit Modi has surrendered his Indian passport to authorities in High Commission of India in London.
He has now acquired citizenship of Vanuatu.
The Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Randhir Jaiswal in his weekly presser on Friday the 7th of March 2025 confirmed fugitive Lalit Modi surrendering his Indian passport in Indian authorities in London.
“He (Lalit Modi) has send an application to Indian High Commission in London to surrender his Indian passport. It will be treated as per the law. And we are also perusing all his cases”, said Randhir Jaiswal.
Regarding India, US negotiating multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement, the MEA spokesperson said the two governments are in the process of advancing discussions on a multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement.”
“Our objective through the BTA is to strengthen and deepen India-US two-way trade across the goods and services sector, increase market access, reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers, and deepen supply chain integration between the two countries,” he added.
