Come December the First when India takes over the Presidency of G 20, two events took place on Saturday the 26th of November 2022.
While the External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr S Jaishankar addressed students from various universities in the north-east at Imphal – the capital city of Manipur, in Andaman Islands, Amitabh Kant and Harsh Vardhan Shringala met about 40 heads of missions and international organisations at Swaraj Dweep – a tourist paradise which lies 39 kms north-east of Port Blair.
Jaishankar said – ‘from December 1, India will take over the Presidency of the G 20 and India wants the Presidency to be different’.
“We want it to be celebrated and participated in by the entire country,’ the minister said.
Addressing another meeting with business communities, he said, India is trying to improve trade relations with Myanmar and Bangladesh.
“India’s North East is fulcrum to a larger region,” the minister said.
India is also pushing for mobility and migration partnership agreements with UK, France and such agreements will be taken up with other countries.
At Swaraj Dweep, the G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant and Chief G20 Coordinator Harsh Vardhan Shringla on the substantive, operational and logistical aspects of various G20 interactions during India’s Presidency.
Heads of Missions were provided a detailed briefing on the history, culture, environment and development of the Andaman & Nicobar islands by Chief Secretary Keshav Chandra.
In addition to the briefing, delegates also took part in a yoga session, followed by a beach cleaning activity, which symbolize our pro-planet, sustainable lifestyles and One Earth approach.
Delegates also visited the historic Cellular Jail at Port Blair.
