The Canadian knew it for sure that sooner or later Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) would slam them for honouring pro-Khalistani extremists in their parliament.

On Friday the 21st of June during its weekly presser the MEA Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal lambasted Canadians stating that India “opposes any moves giving political space to extremism and those advocating violence”.

Jaiswal said this while answering questions from media adding that India has strongly protested with the Canadian diplomats posted here in New Delhi over a so-called citizen’s court held outside the Indian Consulate General in Vancouver where PM Modi was shown behind bars and being mocked as “tried” in court.

“We naturally oppose any moves giving political space to extremism and those advocating violence… The question of political space being given to people who advocate violence and anti-India agenda is the real problem (in Canada), and therefore we have time and again been insisting that the Canadian authorities take action against them,” the MEA Spokesperson said.

It may be recalled that few days back in Canada some pro-Khalistani Sikhs marked the anniversary of the killing of Nijjar in British Columbia by staging a mock murder trial against Prime Minister Modi just outside the Indian consulate building in Vancouver.

Ties between India and Canada are not cordial ever since Canada had decided to take-up cause for Khalistani elements.

The Canadian PM Justin Trudeau had sparked a controversy in September last year when he told Canadian parliament that they have been actively pursuing “credible allegations of a potential link” between agents of the Government of India and the killing of Nijjar.

Government of India has out rightly rejected these claims and called the allegations by Trudeau as “absurd and motivated.”
