In a strongly worded statement issued late on Thursday evening (19th September 2024) India has rejected a Reuters report suggesting that ammunitions for big guns have been diverted to Ukraine.

“Its speculative and misleading”, the MEA statement stated while rejecting the news agency report.

Various media reports quoting Reuters had suggested that supplies from Indian defence contractors containing mainly artillery shells were rerouted to Ukraine from two European countries.

The same report further allegedly added that all this had happened while India chose not to intervene.

MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Thursday, “We have seen the Reuters report. It is speculative and misleading. It implies violations by India, where none exist and, hence, is inaccurate and mischievous.

Emphasising that India has an impeccable track record of compliance with international obligations on the export of military and dual-use items,  Jaiswal added, “India has been carrying out its defence exports taking into account its international obligations on non-proliferation and based on its own robust legal and regulatory framework, which includes a holistic assessment of relevant criteria, including end-user obligations and certifications.”
