The prestigious summit meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) chaired by India was held on Tuesday the 4th of July.

Held over the internet, that is in virtual mode, at the SCO meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the menace of terrorism as number one threat to the regional and global area.

Quoting Modi – “Terrorism may be in any form, in any manifestation, we have to fight together against it”  – the Indian Prime Minister said at the 23rd edition of what is known as SCO Council of Heads.

Top leadership from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan were linked in live-hookup with Prime Minister Modi.

On Tuesday Iran was admitted as full member of the SCO.

Addressing media persons, the foreign secretary Vinay Kwatra informed that membership of Belarus is most likely to be admitted by 2024 in the SCO.

The Prime Minister while referring to global terrorism indirectly pointed to Pakistan while stating that “some countries use cross-border terrorism as a policy instrument and shelter terrorists and the SCO should condemn such countries”.

“There should be no double standards on terrorism” Modi added.

Raising concerns over the Afghanistan situation he said India’s concerns and expectations regarding Afghanistan are similar to those of most SCO countries.

“The land of Afghanistan is not used to spread instability in neighbouring countries or encourage extremist ideologies” he added.

As many as five special documents proposed by India were accepted during the summit meeting that includes subjects on start-ups and innovations and traditional medicines.

Vinay Kawtra said that in all 134 events were held all over the country during the course of presidency of India highlighting ideals that are enshrined in the formation.
