India & China army commanders to meet soon to resolve border dispute

News has come-in that army commanders from India and China will meet for their 16^th round of talks to resolve the ongoing border dispute along the Himalayas.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement on Tuesday evening on 31^st of May 2022 stating that this was agreed after a virtual meeting of top officials during a WMCC meet, otherwise known as Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs.

This WMCC was a 24^th meeting in a series of consultations that are periodically held between India and China to resolve friction points along the LAC – the Line of Actual Control, the border line between the two countries.

Ever since the early sixties China is yet to agree with the Indian point of view on the international border along the mountains in the Himalayas.

The 24th WMCC meeting was co-chaired by Naveen Srivastava, Additional Secretary of the East Asia Division of the Ministry of External Affairs and Hong Liang, Director-General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Foreign Ministry via video link.

The two sides reviewed the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Western Sector of India-China border areas.

Both sides exchanged notes since the last meeting of WMCC in November 2021.

It may be recalled that 14^th and 15^th meetings of the Senior Commanders were held in January and March 2022 respectively.
