Pause in the regular bilateral ties between India and China post Galwan clashes of 2020 is being reset as Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will be in China for two days with a specific brief from the Prime Minister to resume the bilateral mechanism.

On Wednesday evening 23rd of January 2025, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced in a statement that Vikram Miri will be visiting Beijing on 26th and 27th January to meet top officials in China.

The MEA statement added that the resumption of this bilateral mechanism flows from the agreement at the leadership level to discuss the next steps for India-China relations, including in the political, economic, and people-to-people domains.

Foreign and strategic affairs experts are saying that this move is achieving a breakthrough kick started when Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping during the BRICS summit in October 2024,.’

It may be recalled that after the Modi-Xi Jinping meeting another top level meeting took place between India and China when National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in December 2024
