Various media organisations from Pakistan are reporting that Imran Khan has been has been formally placed under police remand on May the 10th, 2023 in wake of serious graft charges levelled by Pak’s National Accountability Bureau.
It’s a eight-day remand of former Prime Minister in the Al-Qadir Trust graft case, Pak media reported.
The Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir had earlier heard the case and reserved his verdict.
On Tuesday the 9th of May 2023, Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf Chief Khan was arrested in a graft case, and presented before the accountability court at the Police Lines Headquarters.
Some news channels were reporting that the accountability bureau is likely to investigate the former premier at the Police Lines in Islamabad.
On Wednesday the 10th of May 2023 Imran Khan’s troubles multiplied as he was formally indicted in the Toshakhana case, in which the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf chief is accused of taking gifts in an illegal manner.
The local additional sessions judge Humayun Dilawar, of the Islamabad district and sessions court, framed charges against the former prime minister in the Toshakhana case.
Imran Khan’s lawyers requested for the case to be transferred to another judge, a plea which was promptly was rejected.
The 70-year-old cricketer-turned-politician was accused of misusing his 2018 to 2022 premiership to buy and sell gifts in state possession that were received during visits abroad and worth more than Rs140 million ($635,000).
The gifts included watches given by a royal family, according to government officials, who have alleged previously that Khan’s aides sold them in Dubai.
The gifts included seven wristwatches, six made by watchmaker Rolex, and the most expensive a “Master Graff limited edition” valued at 85 million Pakistani rupees ($385,000).
The election commission’s order had said Imran stood disqualified under Article 63(1)(p) of the Constitution.
Following the order, the election watchdog moved the Islamabad sessions court and sought criminal proceedings against him — and the PTI chief has missed several hearings.
