In a first, the Indian Air Force achieved a historic landmark by landing C-130J Super Hercules heavy lift aircraft at Kargil airfield by technique of terrain masking in total darkness. It was in effect a ‘stealth landing’ exercise.
The nighttime landing took place less than 24 hours back.
Late on Sunday night between 6th and 7th of January 2024, IAF lands C-130J Super Hercules aircraft in pitched darkness at Kargil airfield.
The feat was achieved by terrain masking – in total darkness as no landing lights were used. Only night vision instruments were switched-on

It may be recalled that November last year IAF had achieved a similar feat by landing Lockheed Martin C-130J on a semi prepared airstrip in Uttarakhand.
