‘There is no doubt that attack by Hamas militants on unarmed Israeli citizens was a terrorist act and also it is matter of fact that state of Palestine has a right to exist alongside with Israel peacefully.’

This in nutshell was the main communication stated by Arnindam Bagchi, official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) during his weekly presser on Thursday the 12th of October 2023.

Bagchi said  – India sees the attack by Hamas on Israel as “a terrorist attack” and that it has always advocated the resumption of direct negotiations towards establishing a sovereign, independent and viable state of Palestine that lives side by side at peace with Israel.
Arindam Bagchi was replying to questions  about the fast changing situation on ground in the Israel-Hamas conflict zone.

He said ‘there is a universal obligation to observe international humanitarian law and the need to fight terrorism’ adding that India’s position concerning the Palestine issue has been “longstanding and consistent”.
“India has always advocated the resumption of direct negotiations towards establishing a sovereign, independent and viable state of Palestine living within secure and recognised borders side by side at peace with Israel. That position remains the same,” he said.
“There is also global responsibility to fight the menace of terrorism in all its manifestations,” the MEA spokesperson added.
