Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had a very good and fruitful meeting with his US counterpart Lloyd Austin on Monday the 5th of June 2023 in New Delhi.

The US Defence Secretary is on a two day official visit to India.

The latest round of apex level defence talks between India and the Unites States are significant as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is schedule to visit America later this month.

Various reports emanating suggests that India is almost certain to get that crucial main engine component of LCA Mark-II from USA  – as a joint venture to be setup with American and Indian defence manufacturers.

As per the official statement issued by the Ministry of Defence bilateral meeting with between Rajnath Singh and Lloyd Austin was ‘warm and cordial. – the two sides discussed a substantial range of bilateral defence cooperation issues, with particular focus on identifying ways to strengthen industrial cooperation.’

Both sides reviewed the robust and multifaceted bilateral defence cooperation activities and agreed to maintain the momentum of engagement.

They welcomed the inaugural dialogues held recently focusing on Defence Artificial Intelligence and Defence Space.

They also discussed the regional security issues given their shared interest in maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

Senior officials from Ministry of Defence, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane and Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Dr Samir V Kamat, participated in the meeting, the MoD statement added.
