Former governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Shaktikanta Das becomes Principal Secretary-II to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a government notification said on Saturday the 22nd of February 2025.

P K Mishna continues to be Principal Secretary-I to the PM.

The appointments committee of the Cabinet said “Mr Das appointment will be co-terminus with effect from the day he assumed the office”.

PK Mishra has been the Principal Secretary to the PM since September 11, 2019.

Shaktikanta Das served as the RBI Governor for six years, including the three-year extension he was granted during his tenure.

Besides Bimal Jalan, it was Shaktikanta to have a six-year tenure (his term ended December 2024), and had earlier served in various capacities in the Ministry of Finance, including as a key official in the Budget division of Ministry of Finance.

He is a former IAS officer of the 1980-batch Tamil Nadu cadre and had taken over the role of the RBI Governor in December 2018.

News also came about the extension of tenure of NITI Aayog’s CEO BVR Subrahmanyam has been extended by a year, beginning February 24, 2025.

It may be recalled that BVR Subrahmanyam- a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1987 batch- was appointed NITI Aayog CEO for two years in February 2023.
