Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London posted the following message on Twitter while announcing the new women’s tennis champion of the US Open 2021.

“Emma Radacanu’s story is London’s story. Born in Canada to Chinese and Romanian parents, she moved to London at two-years-old. Here in London, we embrace and celebrate our diversity. And if you work hard, and get a helping hand, you can achieve anything.”

And this is the sum of the entire story of this year’s US Open Tennis championship, at least for the women’s championship.

18 years old Emma Raducanu, a British national, defeated 19 years old Leylah Fernandez of Canada to become the first UK citizen to win the women’s US Open since 1977.

The score line was 6-4. 6-3. Straight sets at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York, dateline 11th September 2021.

Emma Raducanu did not dropped even a single set in  entire tournament, winning all 20 of them including the Q1 and Q2 before entering into the regular rounds.
