Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated US President Donald J Trump for his second term.

In his congratulatory message, which came within moments of Trump taking the oath of office, PM Modi described him as “my dear friend”.
“Congratulations my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump on your historic inauguration as the 47th President of the United States! I look forward to working closely together once again, to benefit both our countries, and to shape a better future for the world. Best wishes for a successful term ahead!” PM Modi said in a post on X.

Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States during the 60th Presidential Inauguration at the US Capitol in Washington, DC.

The Chief Justice Supreme Court of USA, Judge John Roberts administered the oath to Trump.
Before Trump’s swearing-in, JD Vance was sworn in as vice president of the USA.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar represented India as Special Envoy of PM Modi at the swearing-in ceremony.

In a post on X, the EAM said that he attended the Inauguration Day Prayer Service at St John’s Church in the morning.

“Privileged to represent India as External Affairs Minister and Special Envoy of PM at the Swearing-In Ceremony of the 47th President of the United States of America today in Washington DC.

“Attended the Inauguration Day Prayer Service at St John’s Church this morning.”
