Pakistan is now making a desperate attempt to salvage its image by deploying additional ‘security cover’ to Chinese nationals in wake of increased attacks them specially working along the CPEC project,
Many media reports are stating that on Saturday last, that is on 4th of June, 2022, a separate foreign security cell has been created by the central police office at Islamabad to apparently ‘protect’ Chinese nationals specially those who are operating outside the ambit of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
The CPEC project line is already under strain in Pakistan. There already exists many security ‘bubble areas’ in and around the CPEC that protects Chinese workers from targeted attacks by the locals.
It may be recalled that Baloch insurgent groups routinely targets CPEC infrastructure projects in Pakistan which among other includes installations such as gas pipelines and electricity towers made by China.
The local Baloch population consider China as an imperialist power and along with the Pakistan government, they allege, are plundering Balochistan’s natural resources.
Reports also indicated that local police authorities in Pakistan are now enlisting services of Chinese-speaking men and women from local communities to work with nationals from China engaged in non-CPEC projects apparently to instil a sense of ‘security’.
