On Sunday last, that is on 14th of August, 2022, United States carried out a precision air strike against al-Shabaab terrorist group in Somalia, Africa, while eliminating 13 terrorists.

The AFRICOM, the United State Africa’s military command issued a statement on Wednesday the 17th of August 2022, confirming the airstrike.

It took place at a remote location near Teedan in Somalia and is believed to be the deadliest one carried out in months.

The banned terrorists al-Shabab were ‘actively attacking Somali National Army forces’, the AFRICOM statement added.

“The command’s initial assessment is that the strikes killed 13 al-Shabaab terrorists and that no civilians were injured or killed”.

The statement added that US forces are authorized to conduct strikes while defending the designated partner forces from terrorists attacks.
Somalia as a nation had collapsed in year 1991 with the downfall of the Siad Barre’s dictatorship.Thereafter the international community had recognized the federal government as the only legitimate authority, which controls the capital Mogadishu and several areas of Somalia.

The al-Shabab terror group, an affiliate of al-Qaeda, is waging a war against the federal government and apparently controls large parts of Somalia’s southern and central areas.
In May ear this year, the United States decided to renew strikes against the terror group in order to check the growing threat it poses to US partner forces.

The latest air strike was in fact first reported by the US’s public broadcaster, the Voice of America (VOA), on Monday.
