Gen Pande gets one month extension as COAS

In a significant announcement made by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Sunday the 26^th of May 2024, the term of Gen Manoj Pande has been extended for one more month.

Now he will retire on 30^th of June giving enough time for the next government to appoint the next Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Post 4^th of June next month after results of Lok Sabha elections will be declared, the next government is expected to name the new Army Chief..

In release issued on Sunday by the MoD, Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) cleared extension in service of Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Manoj C Pande.

The next in line for promotion as COAS are two senior most army officers – Lt Gen Dwivedi and his course mate, Lt Gen AK Singh.

However, both are superannuating on 30^th June.
