Days after the high profile G20 Summit meeting, both Houses of Parliament will sit for five working days from 18th of September to transact urgent government business.

Opposition was taken by surprised late on Thursday evening soon after Parliamentary Affairs minister Prahlad Joshi announced the dates for special session via a tweet message.

Many opposition leaders from the I.N.D.I.A alliance who had gathered in Mumbai were quick to add a speculation that government might hold early Lok Sabha polls in coming winter and the special session could be the last session of BJP government.

“Special Session of Parliament (13th Session of 17th Lok Sabha and 261st Session of Rajya Sabha) is being called from 18th to 22nd September having 5 sittings. Amid Amrit Kaal looking forward to have fruitful discussions and debate in Parliament,” tweeted the Parliamentary Affairs minister.

With no formal announcement regarding possible agenda items for the special session, the little humming bird was hinting at the possible agenda list to include among others a bill for introduction of the ‘One Nation, One Election’.

Such a legislation simply means there would be a possibility of holding simultaneous state and general elections.

Constitutional experts quickly point out that to implement such a revolutionary law requires express consent of state assemblies as well.

It may be recalled that soon after independence in 1947 country had witnessed four Lok Sabha elections conducted along with state assembly elections.
