An earthquake of 3.4 magnitude shook many parts of Assam and the North-East earlier today that is on 16th of July 2021.

Officials in the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that there were no immediate reports of any loss life or property from the affected locations.

The earthquake was reported at 8.39 am in the morning.

The epicenter was at located at Nagaon in the central Assam, the IMD’s National Center for Seismology stated. The depth of earthquake was 10 km below the surface.

The place of occurrence was about 40 km west of Tezpur in Assam which lies on the northern banks of the Brahmaputra river.

There were reports of panic-stricken people running out of their homes as the quake struck.

Northeastern states are prove to frequent earthquakes as it falls in the high seismic zone. Earlier this year also on 28th April, almost the same area was jolted with a 6.4 magnitude earthquake.
