India and Poland on Thursday agreed to broaden their strategic engagement across key sectors including defence, space, nuclear energy and emerging technologies, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held wide-ranging talks with visiting Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the national capital.
The high-level discussions reviewed ongoing cooperation between the two countries and explored new opportunities for collaboration in trade, investment, technology and security.
Both leaders also exchanged views on regional and international developments of shared concern.
Addressing the media after the talks, Prime Minister Modi described India and Poland as important drivers of innovation and economic growth at a time when the global landscape is witnessing significant geopolitical and economic changes.
He said the two countries had agreed to strengthen cooperation in strategic sectors and encouraged Polish industries to partner with India in joint development and manufacturing initiatives.
The Polish Prime Minister, who arrived in India on a three-day visit, is accompanied by Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domanski and a delegation representing various business sectors.
The visit is aimed at expanding economic engagement and deepening bilateral cooperation under the India-Poland Strategic Partnership framework.
Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Prime Minister Tusk and discussed avenues for enhancing collaboration across multiple sectors. Tusk also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat during his visit.
Apart from engagements in New Delhi, the Polish leader is scheduled to travel to Bengaluru, where he will interact with representatives from the information technology, innovation and space industries.
The visit is expected to facilitate stronger business-to-business linkages and encourage investment partnerships in high-growth sectors.
Officials said both countries are seeking to leverage complementarities in areas such as defence manufacturing, clean energy, digital technologies, education, research and cultural exchanges. Enhanced people-to-people contacts are also expected to feature prominently in future cooperation initiatives.
Poland remains India’s most significant economic partner in Central and Eastern Europe, with bilateral trade and investment ties witnessing steady growth in recent years.
The latest engagements are expected to provide fresh momentum to the relationship and open new avenues for strategic and commercial cooperation.
